Leigh-on-sea Town Council are thrilled to announce that we will once again host a Community Day at Bonchurch Park on Sunday 9th June 1-4pm. Last year’s showcase event received overwhelmingly positive responses and there was a lovely ‘local feel’ amongst the crowds of approximately 600 visitors. Planning is in the initial stages and we hope to improve the event further this year! You can keep up to date with developments on our Facebook page @LeighTCevents. We will also be writing to local residents to notify them of the event.
The Community Day aims to promote health and well-being in the community by bringing a variety of local charities and community groups together with the Town Council.
Last year’s stall holders included West Leigh Baptist Church, Salvation Army, British Legion, Leigh Lions, Women’s Institute, Girl Guides, St Johns Ambulance, Community Police, Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, Southend YMCA, Southend Adult Community College and more. There were also a number of performances throughout the day from local dance and drama groups.
The stall holders expressed that it was a great opportunity to meet local and also network with other community group to share their experiences, including volunteering opportunities.
A selection of responses included:
“The atmosphere was one of friendliness and fun. The music and dancing was excellent.”
“A good mix of stall holders all from the Leigh area and a good family feel.”
“I applaud those who worked so hard to make this day a success. Lovely to see our local community come together.”
“The entertainment and the friendly atmosphere also how easy it was to find relevant people if needed any help.”
We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 9th June, 1-4pm at Bonchurch Park and helping to make Leigh-on-Sea more cohesive, improve well-being and ultimately have some fun!
